Kalmar reaches the 500 Eco reachstacker milestone by continuing sustainable cooperation with Portos dos Açores

CARGOTEC CORPORATION, TRADE PRESS RELEASE, 22 DECEMBER 2022 AT 11:00 AM (EET)

Kalmar, part of Cargotec, has received a repeat order of two Kalmar Eco reachstackers from Portos dos Açores, including a 3-year Gold warranty package. With this agreement, Kalmar celebrates the milestone of altogether 500 Eco reachstackers sold worldwide. The order has been booked in Cargotec’s 2022 Q4 order intake and the units are scheduled for delivery in Q2 2023.

Portos dos Açores, S.A. is managing all commercial ports, cruise terminals and marinas in the Autonomous Region of the Azores, assuming a unique importance in the business context and society in the Azores Islands, with more than 98% of the goods in transit in the region through the port infrastructures. Additionally, more than one million passengers use the port infrastructure every year to move between islands. In the cruise ships segment, 200 ship calls and 150,000 passengers have already been exceeded, and the marinas already surpassed the annual record of 4,500 calls by non-local vessels.

In this order, Kalmar will deliver the new 50 tons spreader and the extra protection of the cabin by hot galvanization. The Kalmar Eco Reachstacker is a great fit to both companies’ sustainability agenda, helping to preserve the delicate nature in the Azores.

Rui Terra, President of the Board of Portos dos Açores: “This agreement is a great continuation of the long standing relationship between Portos dos Açores and Kalmar, and also reinforces the Portos dos Açores commitment to preserve the unique nature in the Azores. Additionally, our long relationship with Kalmar, since 1981, has shown we can trust the quality of both Kalmar equipment and service availability.”

Mette Kjems Bærentzen, Head of Sustainability, Kalmar: “This is such an important milestone. The use of Eco reachstackers is helping reduce CO2 emissions all over the world and with 500 units sold we are reaching a tipping point for the acceptance of and customer belief in eco-efficiency – that it is possible to have high productivity, but with much lower fuel consumption.”
